Our Land Throughout this week, we frequently visited the topic of ownership. We were asked about the meaning of ownership. After reading a very well developed essay from another student about their opinion, I began to form my own thoughts and decision on the idea of ownership. First, to better understand it I think it is important that we step back, and thing about the ICE synthesis I completed earlier in the week. Although I don't remember what the prompt stated in its exact words, it asked me on my thoughts about what a home is. Throughout the majority of my essay, I spoke about how home is not the physical structure of your house, but it is about the community in which it is placed. While searching my thoughts, I came to the conclusion that although ironic, it is easier to establish a home whilst relocating frequently, as you better understand the comforts of a community, and the significance of connections and ties. Sink or Swim? Walking into class on a grim Monday morning, the best thing to hear was Mrs. Valentinos welcoming voice softly shouting, “Everyone sit down and put your phones away! Not in your pockets, AWAY!”. Contrary to my original thought process, we weren’t taking an assessment, we were watching a movie. I was excited to sit back and relax watching another horrible school movie, but hey, it was better than actual work. As the plot began to thicken I realized that this wasn’t just a shitty boring school movie, but rather an interesting one. On the first day of watching the movie when Yusra and Sara jumped in, it really opened my mind. I didn’t understand the deeper meaning until our Thursday seminar, but even as I tried to explain it to my classmates, it sounded like a slur of incomprehensible words.
