Great Gatsby Big Moments

 Great Gatsby Big Moments

During this week, we continued about the Great Gatsby. In the chapters we read this week, there were specific points that surprised me, and were very significant for the plot, specifically in chapters 4, 5, 6 and 7. Nick and Gatsby finally met each other in chapter 3, but building off of the in chapter 4, Gatsby and Nick go to lunch in the city where we begin to learn a lot about Gatsby. We learn that the name Gatsby is one that he gave to himself to sound more wealthy, and his name is actually James Gatz. He comes from poor farmers in North Dakota, and he meets a man with a yacht and begins to work for Dan Cody. This blossomed his hunger and his desire for all the wealth he could possible obtain, which shapes the Gatsby we see throughout the story. In chapter 5, Gatsby finally reunites with Daisy. All though it was a bit awkward at first, we get to see how they grow closer to each other very quickly, and we learn that Daisy is not happy in her relationship at all (which we could already imagine). In chapters 6 & 7, this is where Gatsby begins to understand why he will never be able to make Daisy his. Gatsby throws another extravagant party, but he notices the Daisy isn't having fun, and neither is her husband Tom. Tom grows more suspicious of Gatsby and how he makes his money, and begins to disapprove of his wife visiting. This is when Gatsby realized his new money lifestyle though very flashy, will never be accepted by those of old money. In chapter 8 he then stops throwing his parties, and fires all his staff so word of his relationship with Daisy does not find light.
