Real Life 'Sweat' This week when watching the play 'sweat', the talk they had about the work they did on the floor of the factory reminded me a lot about the work I did over the summer. In the play, the characters talk about how they are starting to suffer, their bodies are starting to ache, they can't preform normal tasks anymore because the work they do is taking a toll on their body. Over the summer I work at a place called TDIC, TD industrial coverings. Here we made cloth and fabric coverings that protected industrial machines necessary for making the cars. When working here, I looked around to see many old ladies, who looked miserable, tired, and sore. At first glance, when walking in, I turned and whispered to my brother "Dada got us a job at a sweatshop". Each old ladies we encountered told us the same cliché, "focus on your school and studies so you can work with you brain, not your bodies" they said in their thick European accents. ...

Gatsby Fan Fiction All the lights, all the people, all the voices. I started getting overwhelmed, and was missing the feeling of my warm, cozy bed. My senses were being overloaded, and I didn't know what to do. Only then was it the begging screech of a woman, "stop, please don't stop it!", she yelled. As I made my way over to the area where the noise was coming from, I wasn't the only one that had been shocked. There was a heated argument happening, and one of the men were none other than lightweight boxer Connor McGregor. He had been in New York for a blockbuster fight, and after winning he decided to hit town an celebrate. In search of life and fun, he was directed to the magically Gatsby's where the parties were described as wonderful. As he arrived, Connor began to talk to a beautiful woman he had spotted at the party, the only problem; she was married, and her name was Daisy Buchanan. As Tom made his way over to his mistress, he began calling her deg...

Great Gatsby Big Moments During this week, we continued about the Great Gatsby. In the chapters we read this week, there were specific points that surprised me, and were very significant for the plot, specifically in chapters 4, 5, 6 and 7. Nick and Gatsby finally met each other in chapter 3, but building off of the in chapter 4, Gatsby and Nick go to lunch in the city where we begin to learn a lot about Gatsby. We learn that the name Gatsby is one that he gave to himself to sound more wealthy, and his name is actually James Gatz. He comes from poor farmers in North Dakota, and he meets a man with a yacht and begins to work for Dan Cody. This blossomed his hunger and his desire for all the wealth he could possible obtain, which shapes the Gatsby we see throughout the story. In chapter 5, Gatsby finally reunites with Daisy. All though it was a bit awkward at first, we get to see how they grow closer to each other very quickly, and we learn that Daisy is not hap...

The Great Gatsby The Price of Attention This week in class we began reading the Great Gatsby, and it revealed something very significant about my reading. I cannot focus on a book. Throughout the last couple of years, I have read many books due to the request of my teachers or the demand of a course of book club gatherings. Specifically in the previous years of Honors English, we had focused on reading easier stories, such as graphic novels like Maus, and other books. When sent home with the task of reading the first chapter of the Great Gatsby, I thought nothing of it, but those first five pages hit me like a truck. I constantly found myself looking at the pages on the book rather than actually comprehending them, and having to restart entire pages because I was completely unaware of what I was reading. A simple 21 page chapter that I started before bed, extended all the way into me finishing the last pages just minutes before 3rd hour. Often when asked why I...
